Why does my dog/cat eat grass?

Grass eating is usually normal. Dogs and cats in the wild eat grass to supplement their diet with vegetation. many veterinarians believe that pets eat grass in an attempt to calm an upset stomach but eating grass doesn't necessarily mean that your pet has a tummy ache.

What kind of animals do you treat?

We treat all breeds of dogs and cats, and the occasional rabbit overall wellness exam per request and Dr. Simoneaux’s approval.

Do I need an appointment to see the veterinarian?

We see patients by appointment only. Depending on the daily schedule, we may be able to accommodate an emergency walk-in. True emergencies will take priority, and we suggest you call ahead to ensure we have everything your animals needs upon arrival.

When should I start my puppy on flea and tick prevention?

Check your prevention’s package and label for the required starting age before beginning any prevention. We carry Simparica, which recommends your puppy to be 6 months old before starting prevention. However, other well known carriers such as Frontline and Nexgard allow you to start as early as 8 weeks

When do I switch from puppy/kitten food to adult food?

We recommend switching to adult dog or cat food between 9-12 months.

When should I start my puppy on heartworm prevention?

You may start as early as 6-8 weeks.

Am I able to board my pet/pets at your pet hospital?

We do allow boarding if your pet weighs under 25 pounds and will board only up to 3-4 days.

How often should I schedule a dental for my animal?

At least once a year, but schedule immediately if your pet shows any signs of discomfort, swollen or red gums, or browning/build up.

What can I do if my dog doesn’t like to take a pill?

You may hide the pill in a piece of cheese, liverwurst, or use Greenie Pill Pockets™.

How old does my puppy or kitten have to be to have them spayed/neutered?

They must be at least 8 weeks and weigh at least 2 pounds.

When can I pick up my pet after their surgery?

Depending on the surgery, patients may be picked up as early as 9:00 a.m. the day after their procedure(s) unless communicated otherwise by Dr. Simoneaux and/or his staff. For dentals, patients are allowed to be picked up in the later afternoon (usually 3:30-4:00 p.m.) the day of their dentals unless communicated otherwise by Dr. Simoneaux and/or his staff.
